NYCFC remain unbeaten in Home Opener
|NYCFC remain unbeaten in Home Openers, winning two and drawing the other. Rodney Wallace scored his first NYCFC goal since joining the club in February. Ethan White made his first start of the season. League MVP David Villa scored his first goal of the season. David Villa’s goal in the 28th minute was his third consecutive goal in a home opener at Yankee Stadium. It’s also his second consecutive home opener scoring a brace.
Today marks the third time NYCFC has scored three goals in a match against D.C. United. First NYCFC goals were scored today by offseason acquisitions Rodney Wallace and Maxi Moralez. It was also Sean Johnson’s first clean sheet as a member of NYCFC.
NYCFC is now 2-0-1 (W-L-D) in home openers at Yankee Stadium with a goal differential of +6 (8-2 vs. opponents) in those matches. Sean Johnson, Alex Callens, Alexander Ring, Maxi Moralez, and Rodney Wallace all made their home debuts. Yangel Herrera made his NYCFC debut in today’s match. NYCFC is now undefeated in their last nine regular season home matches at Yankee Stadium, going 8-0-1 (W-L-D), and outscoring opponents 28-9.

From the first minute, the team worked really hard, and this is a really good start for playing our game at home. Last year, we struggled at home. It was important for us to try to win our first home game and we did it today in a really, really good way.”
Rodney Wallace, Sean Johnson playing well today: “I think it was important for us to improve our team and that’s why we got those players. I think we knew about their talent, and when the team performs like they did today it’s easier for the players to express their talent. Rodney had a really good game.
