Toronto FC release two players for USMNT
|Toronto FC has announced that midfielder Michael Bradley and forward Jozy Altidore were named to United States Head Coach Bruce Arena’s 26-man roster for a pair of FIFA World Cup qualification matches. The U.S. will host Costa Rica on Friday, September 1 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. The U.S. will then travel to face Honduras on Tuesday, September 5 at Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Bradley, 30, has earned 136 caps scoring 17 goals for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) throughout his career. He helped the USMNT capture the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup (Sixth for the U.S.) and was named winner of the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup’s Golden Ball presented by Scotiabank as the tournament’s most outstanding player. Bradley has appeared and started in 24 matches, registering two assists (MLS and the Canadian Championship) for TFC this season. He has been named to the MLS Team of the Week three times (Weeks 8, 16, 21) and was on the bench for Week 24.
Altidore, 27, has earned 107 caps scoring 39 goals for the USMNT throughout his career. Like Bradley, he helped the U.S. capture the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Altidore has appeared in 24 matches registering 11 goals and five assists (MLS and the Canadian Championship) for TFC this season. He was also named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 9 and was on the bench for Week 3.
The U.S. currently sit third in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup with eight points.
