New York Liberty Re-Signs Marine Johannés

BROOKLYN – The New York Liberty has re-signed French guard Marine Johannés to a multi-year contract the franchise announced today.

“Marine’s ability to create highly efficient shots for herself as well as her teammates blends seamlessly with the system our coaching staff plans to implement,” said New York Liberty General Manager Jonathan Kolb.  “We expect Marine to report to the team at the conclusion of her overseas club obligations and are very excited that she is committed to the Liberty long term.”

The Liberty acquired Johannés last March after beginning her professional career in France. In 2019, the 5-10 rookie appeared in 19 games averaging 7.2 points, 2.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 18 minutes per game. Johannés also became the first New York Liberty rookie since Crystal Robinson (1999) to have consecutive 20-point games.

Johannés is currently playing in France for Lyon Asvel Feminin, where she is averaging 9.8 points, 3.9 assists and 2.5 rebounds as a starting guard. She will also join the French National Team in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics this summer.

The New York Liberty will tip-off its 24th season at the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, May 16 at 7 p.m. The Liberty’s inaugural home opener at Barclays Center will be against the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday, May 17 at 6 p.m.
